The imposing size and range of a dreadnoughts guns as well as the enormous cost of the time of the various warships components were listed in a souvenir booklet from the 1911 spithead review of the grand fleet. For the £2 million needed to build one dreadnought, the government could equip and maintain for a year 18 battalions of infantry-18,000 men.
