A collection of images that reflect the diving operations and logistics of both Deep
expeditions to the wrecks of HMS Charybdis & Limbourne during 2001-2002.

Above; Skin Deep of Weymouth leaves the small French fishing port of Plomanach for the journey
out to the wreck site of HMS Limbourne during the 2002 expedition. The small port here is tidal
which threw logistics such as mixing gas and leave times out of sequence. The hydraulic ladder
gantry can be seen housed on the stern of the boat. Image Courtesy John Ovenden

Above; Out at sea above the wreck site on day one and Tim bach finalizes schedule
before Chris Hutchison makes his entry into the water. Utilizing twin 20ltr Cylinders
alongside Mark Bullen & Steve Parker the three men would make a shaved checkout
dive on the wreck at 280ft depth to verify the established position given by John Ovenden.

Left; Mark Bullen mentally prepares himself for the initial exploration dive to HMS Limbourne
during the 2002 expedition. A veteran British wreck diver Mark is widely regarded as an
asset to any expedition through his extensive wreck knowledge and navigation skills.

Right; Holly Turner makes repairs to the decompression station during the 2002 expedition.
As well as Skin Deep crew 21 year old Holly also acted as an expedition translator.

Left; Paul Haslam aboard his vessel Deep Seeker enlightens the expedition divers to his
sonar side scan results of HMS Limbourne. From the dives and Pauls scans we could
establish that Limbourne now lies in three separate sections.

Right; Deep seeker maneuvers over the site of Limbourne survivor Neil Wood lays a wreath
in memory of his lost colleagues lost here, his lost ship 280ft below the surface!

British wreck diver Mark Bullen arrives back aboard the Weymouth dive
boat Skin Deep via the stern hydraulic tailgate lift. HMS Limbourne expedition 2002.

Left; On the quay of the French port Ploumanach Guy Middleton & Chris Hutchison bide time
as the haskel booster pump fills diving cylinders during the 2002 Limbourne expedition.

Right; As the port was extremely tidal there was no time to waste when it came to gas mixing,
with the onboard Compressor we were able to leave dive cylinders aboard and bring the helium
and 02 to the boat. The only disadvantage was that each half hour we physically had to maneuver}
the mixing equipment helium and 02 down the quay with the tide!

the 2002 expedition. Guy acted as expedition translator and worked on stills photography.

Left; Charybdis & Limbourne expedition diver Toby Herbert sends a friendly reminder that he
is English Born and Bred! Each member of both Keith Morris's Charybdis & Limbourne
expeditions was British! As were the ships we went in search of!

Right; Toby Herbert and Tim Bach finalize equipment checks prior to the start of the
Charybdis 2001 expedition dives.

Left; HMS Charybdis survivor and ships diver Steve Keeling prepares to lay a wreath over
the site of HMS Charybdis in memory of his lost colleague's from Oct 1943.

Right; The sea is only Skin Deep! Sponsored by Fat Face clothing the Weymouth dive charter
Skin Deep shows her true colours. Limbourne expedition 2002.
